Meet Faye

“If it wasn’t for Restore I’d still be pretty unwell and wouldn’t be making progress.”

What led you to Restore?

I became homeless after a relationship breakdown. I had nowhere to go, so crashed in Howe Hill hostel. My support worker passed my details to Restore. It felt like a good idea, because they teach you about how to be independent, but still provide a good amount of support, so it’s less scary. It also felt good knowing I’d live with only a few people, rather than a big place like a hostel.

What did a typical day look like?

Before moving into Restore, I didn’t do very much. I wasn’t well enough to work, so it meant my days were pretty empty.

What DOES a typical day look like?

I’m working on my routine with my Restore support worker: making sure I get up and get ready for the day and then put a wash on, etc. I might then either meet my support worker and have a session with them and/or go to one of the hubs that Restore have- the hubs have been so good for seeing and meeting other people that are in a similar situation to me. It feels like a judgement free zone.

What has your experience been with Restore so far?

It’s been positive- I’ve felt really supported and know I’ve always got someone to turn to when I’m in need. I like how they offer support, but are teaching me to be independent too. It doesn’t feel crazily enforced.

If it wasn't for Restore, where do you think you'd be now?

I would probably still be at the hostel or if that didn’t work out, the streets. I’d still be pretty unwell and wouldn’t be making progress. I also feel like I’ve got more of a plan for the future now.

What are your hopes for the future?

I want to be in a more stable housing situation and to be able to live on my own. I want to use the skills and help I’ve gained here in the future and I want to feel more like myself and more in control of my life. I want to feel like I’m worthy of achieving the plans I have for the future.

If you could say anything to someone thinking of donating to Restore, what would it be?

It’s a good investment. I can say from personal experience, the money goes directly to benefitting us as residents. It all helps us and supports us- and you’re contributing and continuing to help the less fortunate. You’re helping us to feel like we’re worth something and have a purpose.
